Southwest Michigan girl, 13, dies after track meet race
Ida — A southwest Michigan 13-year-old died after becoming ill following a race during a track and field meet.
Jasmin Torres, 13, of Ida died Tuesday night at an Adrian Hospital.
Ida Public Schools Superintendent Richard Carsten told the Monroe News the Ida Middle School student began to feel sick after running the 400-meter dash. He said an athletic trainer and a physician immediately began checking on the girl, but her condition worsened and an ambulance took her to the hospital.
Carsten said Jasmin was still conscious and talking at the hospital, but her condition worsened.
He said her cause of death isn’t known yet.
