1 of 3 survivors of crash that killed 5 leaves hospital

Associated Press

Brighton — One of the two drivers in a crash that killed five people in Livingston County has been released from a hospital.

In a brief update Wednesday, Michigan State Police said 39-year-old Albert Boswell went home last week. The other driver, 22-year-old Matthew Carrier of Fenton, remains in a hospital along with a passenger, Kyle Eugene Lixie, 23, of Fenton.

Police say Carrier ignored a stop sign and smashed into Boswell’s vehicle on M-59 on May 9.

Two people in Carrier’s vehicle were killed. Three people in the vehicle driven by Boswell also died, including Candice Dunn, 35, of Sterling Heights, a probation agent who had been honored at a Corrections Department banquet earlier that night.

Police say alcohol was a factor, although tests aren’t finished. The secretary of state office says Carrier and Boswell didn’t have a valid driver’s license.
