A Cincinnati-based food company has issued a recall for more than 2,400 pounds of ready-to-eat meat and poultry products shipped to stores in three states including Michigan that may be contaminated with listeria, federal food and safety officials said Friday.

The products, by CC Kitchens LLC, were shipped to stores in Ohio and West Virginia, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service. A list of stores was not immediately available.

The salad products were produced and packaged between May 31and June 5 and have a shelf life of six days.

“The problem was discovered when CC Kitchens, LLC was notified by one of its suppliers that lettuce used in the production of their ready-to-eat meat and poultry salad products was involved in a recall,” officials said in a statement. “The lettuce supplier initiated a recall as a precaution because positive test results for the presence of Listeria were identified during environmental testing of portions of their facility.”

There has been no confirmed reports of reactions to the products, officials said.

Consuming food contaminated with L. monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, a serious infection that primarily affects older adults, people with weakened immune systems and pregnant women and their newborns.

Symptoms include fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance and convulsions sometimes preceded by gastrointestinal issues, government officials said.

Listeriosis is treated with antibiotics.
