1 dead, 1 hurt in west Mich. civic center collapse
One worker died and another was injured after a civic center ceiling collapsed Tuesday on the state’s west side.
Holland Department of Public Safety police and fire units were dispatched to the Holland Civic Center at about 3:13 p.m. and found one person trapped in the debris and another injured near the collapse, which involved a small area near the east doors, authorities said in a statement.
The civic center on West 8th Street has been closed for renovations and is slated to reopen in October 2018, according to the city’s website.
Both people hurt at the site were working for a subcontracting company involved in the efforts, city officials reported.
Firefighters freed one of the workers, but that person was pronounced dead at the scene.
The second employee was taken to Holland Hospital with serious injuries.
The identities of the victims were not released Tuesday. The incident is under investigation
