First they dug out, then they opened the YMCA

The Detroit News

Yes, they were open Monday, but it took a minute.

The Marinette-Menominee YMCA, like others in Michigan, dealt with snow and ice and snow over the weekend.

But not like this. The National Weather Service reported Menominee, near the Wisconsin border, received 24.5 inches of snow by 9 a.m. Monday. (Not to claim the title of largest amount of snowfall over the weekend, the weather service reported that storm totals reached a “whopping 30 inches or more” in some areas of northeast Wisconsin.)

“Eager Y members!!! Yes! We are open now that we can find our doors!! said a Facebook post by the YMCA shared more than 20,000 times and liked by more than 2,600 on Monday. A photo shows three people standing at the end of a narrow tunnel of snow that towers over the center’s door.

“This UP this winter. Unbelievable!” said one comment on Facebook.

“this is real. Today. Up north, in the upper peninsula of Michigan. So much for spring,” said another.
