A Bruce Township man is accused of assaulting his mother and his girlfriend and shooting up a car in Berlin Township Saturday, police said Wednesday.

Christopher Castillo, 41, has been charged with assault and battery, domestic violence, reckless discharge of a firearm, malicious destruction of a building under $200 and breaking and entering, according to St. Clair County Sheriff Tim Donnellon. All of the charges are misdemeanors.

Castillo was arraigned on the charges in Port Huron’s 72nd District Court Tuesday and is being held at the St. Clair County Intervention and Detention Center on a $75,000 bond. A judge scheduled his next court appearance for June 11.

Donnellon said in a statement that deputies responded at about 11:30 p.m. Saturday to a report of an assault at a home in the 16000 block of Tubspring Road near Cochrane Road in Berlin Township. Berlin Township is about 50 miles north of Detroit.

Deputies learned the home belongs to Castillo's 48-year-old girlfriend. They also determined Castillo allegedly assaulted the woman and his 62-year-old mother before running out of the house.

In the investigation, police found a vehicle parked at the home that had a number of bullet holes in it, officials said.

Deputies were unable to locate Castillo, Donnellon said.

Shortly after 2 a.m. Sunday, Castillo's girlfriend called the sheriff's office to report he was trying to get into her home.

Deputies dispatched the offices' Special Resonse Team, the sheriff said. The team deployed a robot into the home to search for Castillo, who police believed was still armed.

Authorities found Castillo in the home's basement and he was arrested without incident, Donnellon said.
