Shannon Lynn Burton to become MSU ombudsperson
Michigan State University has promoted Shannon Lynn Burton to ombudsperson to help students resolve conflicts and disputes with the university, officials said Thursday.
In her new role, Burton also will help administrators and staff wade through university rules and regulations that might apply to student concerns.
Burton, who joined MSU as assistant university ombudsperson in 2012, became associate university ombudsperson in 2016.
Her new post becomes effective July 1. Her salary was not immediately available.
Burton is replacing Robert Caldwell, who is retiring.
“Shannon was highly recommended by the search committee and her experience and interpersonal skills make her a natural choice for this position,” said MSU Interim President John Engler. “Her work on sensitive issues has been praised by many at MSU, and we look forward to her plans for providing a high level of service for the university community.”
