Detroit man drowns at Milan Beach
A Detroit man drowned Monday at Milan Beach, Monroe County Sheriff's Officials said.
Witnesses had called 911 about 2 p.m. to report that a man went underwater in a swimming pond on the site's east side and never resurfaced, investigators said in a statement.
The beach, which is privately owned but open to the public, does not have a lifeguard on duty, according to its website. It's near U.S. 23 in Milan and straddles parts of Washtenaw and Monroe counties.
Sheriff's deputies and Milan Area Firefighters responded. Rescuers found the man, identified as Raymond Anthony Perez, 57, about 30 feet from shore in 8-10 feet of water, officials reported. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Monroe County Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident.
