Flint – A new school is coming to Flint, thanks to $35 million from the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation.

Local and state leaders broke ground Tuesday for the Flint Cultural Center Academy, a free charter school that will open in fall 2019 and eventually have as many as 650 students through eighth grade.

The Mott Foundation is committing millions to design, construct and stock the school at Flint’s Cultural Center campus. The school will offer programs and services from the Flint library, Longway Planetarium, Flint Institute of Arts and Flint Institute of Music.

Mott Foundation president Ridgway White says the goal is to create a “learning opportunity that doesn’t exist” in the region.

Information about applying to the school will be available in 2019.
