LaSalle Twp. — Two people were killed Thursday when a motorcycle they were riding was hit by a car that crossed the center line of a highway in LaSalle Township, police say.

David Dittmar, 53, of Carleton, and Casey Boudrie, 45, of Monroe, were killed in the crash, which occurred around 8 p.m. on South Dixie Highway near Kelly Road, Michigan State Police said.

Witnesses told police that a 2003 Dodge Neon traveling south crossed the center line and hit the 2017 Harley-Davidson motorcycle riding north in a head-on collision. The motorcycle caught fire, police say.

The name of the 52-year-old driver of the Neon has not been released. Both victims were wearing helmets at the time of the crash.

Police suspect alcohol use was a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
