Two teen pedestrians, siblings ages 13 and 16, died Wednesday after a truck struck them outside a Monroe County home, authorities reported.

The youths had been walking near Sterns Road and Hidden Valley Drive in Bedford Township, near Toledo, about 12:30 p.m. when an eastbound 2009 Ford F-150, "for unknown reasons," veered off the southern edge, across the shoulder and onto an easement, the Monroe County Sheriff's Office said in a statement.

The pedestrians, identified as 13-year-old Justin Haun of Lambertville, Michigan, and 16-year-old Alyssa Haun of Hinckley, Ohio, sustained serious injuries. Monroe Community Ambulance rushed the pair to ProMedica Toledo Hospital, where they were pronounced dead.

The pickup driver, identified as Raymond Reyome Jr., 49, of Erie, Michigan, was not injured in the crash.

Two passengers, identified as a 32-year-old Toledo woman and an unknown male, immediately fled the scene after the crash, county officials said.

The crash remains under investigation but texting, speed and alcohol do not appear to be a factors, the sheriff's office said.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call (734) 240-7715.
