Monroe County Jail inmate in critical condition following suicide attempt
An inmate at the Monroe County Jail attempted suicide on Wednesday afternoon, Sheriff Dale Malone said.
The unidentified inmate, age 22, was found hanging in his cell by correction officers around 3:15 p.m., according to a press release from the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.
Officers removed the ligature from the inmate's neck and performed CPR until first responders arrived.
He was taken to the Promedica Monroe Hospital and airlifted to Promedica Toledo where he remains in critical condition, the sheriff's office said.
The Sheriff's Detective Bureau is still investigating the incident.
