Police: Adrian man arrested in extorting kids on Snapchat
An Adrian man was being held in the Lenawee County Jail after police said he demanded graphic images of children and threatened to hack their Snapchat accounts if they refused, officials said.
The Adrian Police Department executed a search warrant on Wednesday in the 1300 block of West Maumee Street as a part of an investigation.
Investigators arrested the suspect, who was being held on one count of possession of child sexually abusive material.
Police said children, some as young as 10, were being extorted using Snapchat, a global messaging app.
"The suspect would demand that the children provide him with graphic images of themselves or other children, and would threaten them with the hacking of their personal internet accounts if they refused to do so," police said in a statement.
Police said numerous images of unidentified children have been recovered. If someone was a victim to this activity or can provide additional information, they can contact Detective LaMar Rufner at (517) 264-4834.
Police said they seized evidence at his residence and it was being forwarded to the Michigan State Police Computer Crimes Unit in Lansing for forensic examination.
