A Genesee County man won an almost million-dollar  jackpot after placing his $1 bets on a Fantasy 5 ticket in the Michigan Lottery, officials say.

The lucky player, who chose to remain anonymous, matched the Fantasy 5 numbers drawn on Aug. 12 and won a record $894,666 jackpot.

"When the jackpot got up around $500,000, something told me to start playing because I was going to win,” said the 58-year-old player. “I started buying tickets, and it turned out I was right."

The winning numbers: 04-06-14-16-17

A Genese County man held the winning jackpot ticket drawn on Aug. 12.

He bought the winning ticket at Tony’s Kwik Mart, at 5124 East Hill Road in Grand Blanc, according to the Michigan Lottery.

The previous record Fantasy 5 jackpot was $840,328, won by a Wayne County player on July 7, 2011.

"I saw the numbers on the drawing show and I knew right away they were my numbers," he said. "I hopped in the car and drove to my mother’s house to tell her the news. At first, she was worried I had something bad to tell her because I was so nervous, but once we all calmed down I was able to tell her I’d won. It’s a true blessing."

The player went to Lottery headquarters Monday to claim his prize. He plans to travel and share his winnings with his family.

"The Lord knows where my heart is at, and this is going to make me even more humble," the player said.
