Amber Alert canceled, father arrested
The manhunt for a father who allegedly abducted his three children early Thursday morning, triggering an Amber Alert, ended in the man's arrest, Michigan State Police said. The children are safe.
Michigan State Police issued an Amber Alert for three children in Sturgis after their father, Fernando Cruz, 37, allegedly abducted them early Thursday — and authorities believed he may have crossed state lines into Indiana.
The Sturgis Police Department, at about 12:15 a.m., responded to an alleged domestic assault in which Cruz allegedly attacked the children's mother, who fled the home and called 911 at a gas station. Police say Cruz was also armed with a handgun.
By the time police arrived at the home, Cruz and the three children — 2-year-old Aldo Cruz, 4-year-old Matteo Nieves, and 5-year-old Chelsey Lopez were gone. By 9 a.m., police had made the arrest and secured the children.
