Munising – A California woman has died after falling 200 feet at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.

Grand Portal Point can be seen from an overlook along the North Country Trail. The cliffs rise some 200 feet above Lake Superior in this part of the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore park. A California woman has died Wednesday after falling 200 feet.

The National Park Service says 32-year-old Tu Thanh Nguyen accidentally fell while hiking and taking pictures by herself Wednesday on the North Country Trail. Kayakers who witnessed the fall got her to shore near Chapel Beach, but she didn’t survive.

Pictured Rocks is a long, narrow park with 15 miles of cliffs along Lake Superior.

Nguyen was from Sunnyvale, California.
