Woman charged in deadly I-94 crash

An Ann Arbor woman has been charged in a deadly Washtenaw County crash last spring that left two people dead and injured several children.
Investigators allege Andre Edwards was driving an SUV that slammed into a disabled school bus May 29 on eastbound Interstate 94 near State Street in Pittsfield Township.
Nader Chehadi, 42, a tow truck driver who had been helping with the bus, was killed.
Days later, a passenger in Edwards' vehicle, Antoinette Butler, 28, of Ypsilanti, died from injuries sustained in the crash, authorities said.
Three young children riding with them, whom officials identified as Edwards', were not restrained also suffered injuries.
Following an investigation led by Michigan State Police and the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office, Edwards was charged with:
• Two counts of second degree murder
• Two counts of operating while intoxicated causing death
• Two counts of operating while intoxicated causing death
• Two counts operating – license suspended, revoked, denied – causing death
• Three counts of second degree child abuse
• Three counts of operating while intoxicated causing serious injury
• One count of operating while intoxicated, third offense
• One count of operating with the presence of a controlled substance (THC) – 3rd offense
• Three counts operating – license suspended, revoked, denied – causing serious injury
The Michigan State Police 1st District Fugitive Team arrested the 25-year-old in Westland on Tuesday.
She was arraigned the next day in 14A-1 District Court and held at the Washtenaw County Jail on a $500,000 bond.
A preliminary exam is scheduled for Oct. 11.
