A western Michigan animal rescue is searching for the owners of a 6-month-old puppy left abandoned with a heartbreaking note on her collar.

Ghost, a female coon hound pup, was wandering around with a note on its collar that said, "I am lost and looking for a home - My owner had a stroke and cannot care for me."

The note continues: "Please don't take me to a shelter."

The dog was picked up by Wyoming rescue Luvnpupz, which posted the note and photos of the brown, white and black dog on its Facebook page.

"We are reaching out to our West Michigan community to help us find “Ghost’s” owner so that we can work together to figure out if there is a way to return her home with some support and assistance, or to give her owner the peace in knowing that we will help find her an incredibly loving and caring new forever home by facilitating a surrender to our organization," the post read. "We promise to never reveal your name."

Anyone with information is asked to contact the rescue at (616) 293-4528 or messaging the Facebook page

Around 11:30 a.m., the page updated with new photos of the dog, saying she was having testing done for an upset stomach. Her owner still hasn't been found.

According to the page, Ghost is on a 30-day stray hold while the organization searches for its owner. Ghost is not up for adoption yet.
