Police: Michigan State student dies in off-campus shooting
East Lansing — A Michigan State University student from Texas was fatally shot during a fight at an off-campus student apartment complex, according to police.
East Lansing police say the 22-year-old man was pronounced dead early Friday at a hospital. Police initially had said he wasn’t a student. His name and hometown weren’t immediately released.
Police responded to a call about shots fired and people fighting at 2:44 a.m. at the 25 East apartment complex, on the 2500 block of Chandler. Upon arrival, police found the victim with a gunshot wound.
The apartment complex is located about 2 miles north of the Michigan State University campus.
Police say they don’t think there’s an immediate danger to the public.
"We are working a bunch of different angles but not releasing any info on suspect's or victim's names," East Lansing Police Captain Chad Connelly told The Detroit News. "We believe at this point there’s no immediate threat."
Connelly said the shooting is under investigation and immediate family has been notified.
"We’re just trying to work through this investigation and wait for the family who is traveling right now from out of state," he said.
