EB I-696 has limited lanes after weather affects concrete
The Michigan Department of Transportation is warning drivers that, starting at 5 a.m. Monday, eastbound Interstate 696 in Oakland County will reopen with limited lanes.
MDOT cited weekend weather, which brought a round of thunderstorms, wind advisory with winds reaching up to 47 mph, light snow showers and hail. Some 89,000 customers initially were without power.
The weather affected the concrete on I-696, MDOT said. Interstate 275 to Orchard Lake will have four lanes open. Orchard Lake to American Drive will have only two lanes open and U.S. 24 will have only one lane open.
Expect backups on I-696, interstates 96 and 275, and M-5, MDOT said.
Detours include U.S. 23, I-275, M-14/96, Grand River or Interstate 94.
MDOT had warned earlier this month that construction of one of Metro Detroit's busiest freeways might not be complete before winter starts after a three week lockout by construction crews.
