A spill that closed northbound Interstate 75 in Monroe County just after rush hour Thursday morning has been cleared, and now all lanes are open to traffic, the Michigan Department of Transportation confirmed.

MDOT said the closure, on northbound I-75 at Summit, started about 9:40 a.m. Sgt. Rod Goss of the Michigan State Police confirmed that a truck that was carrying human waste lost its cargo on the roadway.

This was at the freeway's two-mile marker, not far north of the Michigan-Ohio border. The spill closed all lanes of the northbound freeway.

But by noon one of the freeway's three lanes was again passable to traffic. By about 1:15 p.m., though, all lanes were cleared to thru traffic.
