Fort Gratiot Township — Detectives with the St. Clair County Sheriff's Office are investigating the slaying of a Port Huron man, whose body was found in a ditch Sunday, officials said.

The victim has been identified as Kevin Anderson Jr., 28. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday afternoon, police said.

Deputies were called to the 4000 block of Keewahdin Road in Fort Gratiot Township at about 8 a.m. Sunday to respond to a report of a pedestrian fatality, authorities said. Fort Gratiot is about 50 miles northwest of Detroit and about six miles north of Port Huron.

Residents of the area found his body and called police. Deputies arrived and determined the victim had not been struck by a vehicle but did have a gunshot wound.

Investigators determined Anderson had been shot at the side of the road and dragged into a ditch several hours earlier.

The residents who called police said they heard a noise shortly before 4 a.m. Sunday, officials said. They looked out a window of their home and saw a parked car facing east on Keewahdin Road.

They told deputies they saw the vehicle make a U-turn and park facing westbound. They also said they believed the car struck either a deer or a guardrail, according to police. The vehicle left and the residents went back to bed.

Anyone with information about the incident should call Det. Haley Bonner at (810) 987-1728.
