Ludington – Authorities say search crews have found the body of a 38-year-old man who was swept away with his wife and their two children into Lake Michigan from the mouth of the Big Sable River in western Michigan.

The Mason County sheriff’s office says the body of Brian Herrmann of Brighton was spotted Saturday morning about 150 feet offshore some 8 miles north of where he was swept into deeper water Thursday afternoon. His wife and their two children were rescued from the water at Ludington State Park.

A no swimming sign is placed near the outlet of the Big Sable River in Ludington.

Officials say recent heavy rainfall, along with strong Lake Michigan waves and currents, have made swimming near river outlets hazardous.

The National Weather Service continued on Saturday a warning about beach hazards for much of the state’s Lake Michigan shore.
