The Detroit News

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer's family got their first dog this month, a Labradoodle puppy named Kevin.

Michigan's first pooch, Kevin, strolls with Gov. Gretchen Whitmer on the grounds of the state Capitol.

The 14-week-old was named by Whitmer's daughters, Sydney and Sherry. The white and brown dog is hypoallergenic and a "sweetheart," according to Whitmer's spokeswoman Tiffany Brown.

It's the family's first dog, Brown said.

Other Democrats have been showcasing their political pooches.

Presidential candidate Sen. Elizabeth Warren's dog, Bailey, frequently appears on the campaign trail and has his own Twitter account. "Consumer watchdog & campaign furrogate," his Twitter intro says.

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, another Democratic presidential candidate, introduced Maple on July 17, 2017.

Last year, former Vice President Joseph Biden Jr. showed off his new dog that the family adopted from the Delaware Humane Society after fostering Major.
