Houghton Lake — Michigan State Police are investigating the theft of a front end loader that crashed into a garage, officials said.

Troopers with the state police's Houghton Lake Post were called Tuesday morning to respond to a report that the machine, which belongs to the Roscommon County Road Commission, had been stolen from a construction zone in the area on Bradford Drive near Old U.S. Highway 27 in Lake Township, about 200 miles northwest of Detroit.

Michigan State Police in Houghton Lake said a front end loader stolen from a construction zone Tuesday was found crashed into a garage.

The tractor was found a short time later crashed into a homeowner's garage, police said.
