Rochester Hills man dies Monday in Ida Township car crash

Ida Township — A Rochester Hills man was killed in a Monday car crash, Monroe County sheriff's officials said.
Deputies continue to investigate the crash, which happened at about 10 a.m. Monday on Lewis north of Rauch in Ida Township.
According to a preliminary investigation, a white 2018 Chevrolet truck was traveling north on Lewis when a red 2006 Pontiac Vibe that was heading south crossed the center lane and crashed into the pickup truck head-on. The truck was driven by a 30-year-old Toledo man. He was accompanied by a 26-year-old Toledo man. The Rochester Hills man was driving the Pontiac.
After impact, the Vibe spun counterclockwise and came to rest facing north in the southbound lanes, police said. The pickup overturned and came to rest on its roof in a ditch on the east side of the road.
The Vibe's operator had not been wearing his safety belt and paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene, officials said. Investigators identified the Vibe's driver as Rafal Czekaj.
The two men in the pickup truck, who were wearing their seat belts, were uninjured and released.
Police said it does not appear excessive speed nor alcohol were factors in the crash.
