Heavy showers and scattered thunderstorms are expected in in Saginaw and portions of the Thumb on Sunday night.

Intense rainfall is expected to be the main hazard, the National Weather Service said, with  areas of localized flooding. Rainfall totals could reach more than 2 inches, prompting concern about flooding of rivers and streams and in low-lying urban areas, the weather service said.

Locally, a slight chance of thunderstorms exists for St. Clair, Livingston, Wayne, Washtenaw, Oakland, Macomb, Lenawee and Monroe counties.

"Any thunderstorm will be capable of producing intense rainfall rates and localized flooding," the weather service said.

Storms are expected to move northeast  at 40 mph.

The hazardous weather outlook also is for northern Lower Michigan, eastern Upper Michigan and adjacent nearshore waters of Lakes Michigan, Huron and Superior, the National Weather Service in Gaylord said.

"Torrential rain will gradually diminish this evening across northern Lower Michigan. Until this happens, localized flash flooding is possible," it said.

The weather service also expects scattered thunderstorms Sunday evening in southwest Michigan, with the most concentrated heavy rain expected near Interstate 96. Some small creeks may reach bankfull Sunday evening, the weather service said.

A line of showers is moving into the Saginaw Valley and Thumb areas, the National Weather Service said Sunday evening, with rain expected to expand to the rest of southeast Michigan.

Other areas of southeast Michigan were expected to receive a quarter-inch of rain or less.

Temperatures southeast Michigan are expected to be cooler and less humid Monday, with clouds lingering throughout the day and the possibility for a few showers, the weather service said.

Dry and seasonable conditions are expected on Tuesday.
