City of Clare urges caution after tests show lead in water

Clare – The mid-Michigan city of Clare is urging residents to take precautions after test results exceeding limits for lead were found during recent water testing.

The city announced Thursday that the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy notified officials that two service lines at downtown businesses were above the “action level” for lead. Residential samples were below that level.

Clare notes it “does not have lead in its water mains” and it’s inventorying service lines so lead ones can be replaced.

Residents are being advised to run water before using and to take other steps. Water filters are being distributed Friday.
