The National Weather Service issued a gale warning Friday afternoon for parts of lakes Superior, Huron and Michigan.

The warning remains in effect until 2 a.m. Saturday for areas of northern Lake Huron east of the Mackinac Bridge to Presque Isle to Sturgeon Point. 

"Operating a vessel in gale conditions requires experience and properly equipped vessels," according to the warning. "It is highly recommended that mariners without the proper experience seek safe harbor prior to the onset of gale conditions.

Also affected by the warning are parts of northern Lake Michigan from Norwood, along Grand Traverse Bay, to Manistee in the south. In Lake Superior, the warning covers from Point Iroquois to Whitefish Point.
