Michigan drivers with auto insurance policies are set to receive a $400 refund from the Michigan Catastrophic Claims Association, but the complex process means the checks aren't expected to be received until the second quarter of 2022

The board of the MCCA voted on Nov. 3 in favor of issuing refund checks to drivers across the state but only recently decided to allocate $3 billion of its $5 billion surplus toward the effort. The association’s surplus grew from $2.4 billion at the end of 2020 to $5 billion as of June 30.
