Kids get lesson in compassion
“Frank may look funny, dress kind of funny, maybe even smell funny but he’s not the real monster.” That’s the message of an anti-bullying campaign by Zac Terebus of the popular Erebus Haunted Attraction in Pontiac. Terebus was visiting White Lake Middle School on Tuesday as part of a national anti-bullying campaign “Don’t Be A Monster.” During the presentation, Terebus shows a video of Frank Shelly, a Frankenstein-inspired character who is bullied by two adorable-looking girls who show beneath their masks that they are the real monsters. Terebus, who says he was bullied as a youth, said a third of students will experience bullying. And because of it, suicide is the third leading cause of death among young students. The “Don’t Be A Monster” campaign has reached more than 12,000 middle school students this year.
