Independence Township – — A 51-year-old Shelby Township woman died from injuries suffered Friday night when she skied into a tree at the Pine Knob Ski Resort.
Oakland County Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to the resort about 7:30 p.m. on a report of an injured skier who had crashed into a fence and was unconscious. The woman said she had somehow fallen while skiing, struck the tree and then ran into a retaining fence where she became tangled up.
Pine Knob Ski Patrol workers were able to free the woman and transport her down the hill to the ski patrol office where she complained of chest pain. She was rushed to McLaren Oakland Hospital by ambulance where she later died from injuries, deputies said.
