Men accused of stealing $70K in wire, fleeing police
Three men were arrested, accused of stealing up to $70,000 worth of wire and leading police on a two-mile car chase from Highland Township, police said Friday.
The suspects, a 42-year-old Burton man, a 35-year-old Flint man and a 23-year-old Flint man, are accused of stealing wire valued at $60,000 to $70,000 from American Aggregate of Michigan in the 6000 block of Hickory Ridge Rd. They are also accused of stealing wire from the business on Jan. 3 and Jan. 9.
Around 1:05 a.m. Thursday, an Oakland County sheriff’s deputy was patrolling the 1500 block of Essay Lane when he saw an unoccupied vehicle parked with its hood up on a private road, police said.
A resident in the area told police that the vehicle had been in the area several times during the past month with the hood up.
The license plate revealed that the vehicle and owner matched the description of a suspect in several larcenies in Springfield and Independence townships.
Deputies saw three men get into the vehicle and leave the area into Rose Township.
Police attempted to pull over the vehicle when the driver failed to stop at a stop sign. The suspects led police on a chase for two miles until their vehicle crashed into a ditch in Holly Township.
Two were arrested at the scene and the third ran away. An Oakland County Sheriff’s Office K-9 deputy tracked the suspect for two miles. Fenton police, who assisted with Michigan State Police, arrested the third man as he walked along the road.
The men are in the Oakland County Jail pending warrants.
