Waterford cops probe break-ins
Waterford Police say a homeowner scared off a robber who is suspected of having broken into half a dozen other local homes.
Deputy Chief of Police Jeff James said Friday officers were called to the 5000 block of Ashby Court just before 3:30 p.m. Thursday. The homeowner told police an unknown man tried to break into the home and ran away when the owner returned.
Police used a dog to track the suspect, but it’s believed he got into a waiting vehicle and fled the neighborhood. Witnesses reported seeing a small, white vehicle in the area.
The man who was wearing a red hat and blue coat is thought to be the same one involved in five or six burglaries in the Cooley Lake/Cass Elizabeth area in the past week in which jewelry and cash was taken. The suspect normally got into homes by breaking a window, police said.
Anyone with information about any of the incidents is asked to call Detective Larry Novak at (248) 618-7515, or leave an anonymous message at the Tip Line at (248) 674-COPS.
A reward of at least $1,000 is being offered for tips leading to an arrest.
