Commerce Township — A 41-year-old Farmington Hills man is jailed and expected to face charges in what is believed to be an alcohol-related crash Monday night that killed a 44-year-old Milford Township woman.

Oakland County Sheriff's deputies responded to West Pontiac Trail near Addington Drive about 7:30 p.m. on a person trapped inside a vehicle on fire. Just prior to the crash, a witness had reported a vehicle driving through the area "swerving all over the roadway and almost hitting other vehicles."

But just before being able to report a location and other information, the suspect's vehicle, a Chevrolet SUV, rear-ended a GMC SUV making a left turn. The GMC overturned on its roof, trapping the driver.

The woman died of a combination of thermal burns and smoke/soot inhalation, according to the Oakland County Medical Examiner. Her name is being withheld until a positive identification is made.

The woman, a pizza delivery person for Pizza Hut, was about to deliver an order at the time of the crash.

The suspect, believed intoxicated, was taken to Providence Park Hospital where he was examined for minor injuries. A search warrant was obtained and a blood sample was taken from the man, who was transported to the Oakland County Jail pending charges.

The Sheriff's Office said it expects to present the case to the Oakland County Prosecutor's Office on Wednesday.
