$20K reward for tip in Troy armored van theft

Troy — A $20,000 reward was offered Thursday for information leading to the arrest and conviction of a suspect in an Oct. 1 armored van theft that took place outside Troy Athens High School.

Troy police investigators are working jointly with the FBI’s Oakland County Gang and Violent Crimes Task Force are investigating the robbery, which occurred about 9:30 a.m. in the parking lot of the school located on John R.

The suspect has been described as a man, riding a bicycle, and wearing a hooded sweatshirt and ski mask. He approached the van and pointed a gun at the driver, and the driver exited the vehicle. The suspect then stole the vehicle and drove away.

The armored van was recovered a short time later by the Troy police behind the Troy International Church of God on East Wattles near North Rochester, where it is believed up to $1 million was transferred to another vehicle.
