The AMC Star Southfield 20 was closed Friday night after shots were fired in the theater during a dispute.

The Southfield Police Department was called to the theater at 25333 W. 12 Mile about 6:15 p.m. on a report of gunshots fired.

"Upon arrival, officers located the suspect, who admitted to firing his weapon," police said in a statement. "That subject is cooperating with the department and the weapon has been recovered."

Police said no one was injured. The argument started between two men before a movie started. One of them produced the weapon and fired it, and the other fled, said police.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Southfield Police Department at (248) 796-5500 or its detective bureau at (248) 796-5540.

The alleged gunfire surprised observers on social media Friday night.

"Seriously!?" one user wrote on Twitter.

Another tweeted: "Shots fired in Southfield AMC, went there for nothing."
