DNR ends probe into possible coyote attack on horse
Oxford Township — Officials with the state Department of Natural Resources say they have closed an investigation into a fatal attack on a horse apparently by coyotes in Oakland County.
The Oakland Press in Pontiac reports that state officials have completed interviews with people who were near the scene of the Jan. 25 attack at an Oxford Township farm.
Another horse was injured a few days later while possibly being chased by a coyote.
The newspaper reports that DNR regional wildlife supervisor Tim Payne has said it’s “highly unlikely” that the first horse was attacked by coyotes.
Payne said that it was “within the realm of possibility” that either coyotes or dogs bit at the horse once it was on the ground, but investigators “may never know” what caused it to fall.”
