Crews fixing damage at Independence Twp. cemetery

Associated Press

Independence Township — Crews are working to reverse damage caused while a new grave was being dug last week at a cemetery in eastern Michigan.

The Oakland Press of Pontiac reports the workers were leveling the grounds and placing grave markers back in their original positions on Tuesday afternoon at Ottawa Park Cemetery in Independence Township.

Some residents who have loved ones buried at the cemetery expressed their concern and posted photos on social media after witnessing the state of the grounds.

Cemetery superintendent Pablo Cruz tells the newspaper that an excavator slid while digging a plot, unintentionally toppling monuments and tearing up the lawn.

He says he’s sorry about the damage, and he wants people to know it’s being taken care of.
