A 30-year-old Pontiac woman died Monday morning following a suspicious house fire Sunday afternoon.

According to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, deputies and firefighters were called to a fire in the 200 block of S. Paddock around 4:37 p.m. Sunday.

When they arrived, the single-family home was fully engulfed. Firefighters were able to pull a 32-year-old Pontiac man through a basement window and he was taken to McLaren Oakland Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

A second victim, the Pontiac woman, was taken to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Pontiac in critical condition. She was then transferred to the burn unit at Detroit Receiving Hospital. She died from her injuries Monday morning.

The Wayne County Medical Examiner will perform an autopsy Tuesday morning.

During an investigation of the fire, a K-9 unit alerted that there were possible accelerants on the home’s porch area. Samples from the porch will be analyzed, police said.
