Waterford Township man charged in Pontiac fatal shooting of girlfriend, wounding of child
Pontiac — A 21-year-old Waterford Township man was charged Thursday in the fatal shooting of his girlfriend and the wounding of the woman's 2-year-old daughter.
Akiva McCray is charged with open murder of Kenyette Barnes, 32, and assault with intent to murder her daughter Tuesday night after an argument in Barnes' Pontiac home on South Shirley.
The girl, who was shot once in the leg, is hospitalized in stable condition, Oakland County Sheriff's investigators said.
McCray, also charged with two counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, was arraigned by Pontiac 50th District Judge Cynthia Walker, who denied bond and set an April 23 pre-exam conference in district court.
McCray was remanded to the Oakland County Jail.
