Pontiac — First responders made a grisly discovery when they found the charred body of a man in the back of a van early Monday afternoon.

Deputies from the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department, along with members of the Waterford Regional Fire Department, were called to a fire in a shed in the 200 block of South Boulevard at about 12:50 p.m.

Upon arrival, they found a conversion van fully engulfed in flames. Once the fire was extinguished, officers discovered a body inside the vehicle.

According to neighbors, the van had been parked in the rear yard for over a year. The owner said she had been trying for over a year to get rid of the vehicle but without any success.

Detectives and investigators from the sheriff’s department fire investigation unit responded to the scene, along with the Forensic Crime Lab.

The body of the unidentified man was turned over to the Oakland County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy and to help identify the victim.
