Suspect wanted in Royal Oak leads police on chase

A driver was taken into custody Friday night after leading Royal Oak and Michigan State police on a chase through Oakland and Macomb counties.

The suspect was “wanted by Royal Oak police for possibly trying to lure a child into his vehicle,” Michigan State Police Lt. Mike Shaw said.

City police had tried to stop the driver shortly before 9 p.m. but he took off, eventually getting on to Interstate 696, Shaw said.

That’s where the suspect “collided with a Michigan State Police patrol car, then exited off (at) Van Dyke” in Warren, Shaw said.

A state police trooper then maneuvered to cause the suspect’s vehicle to spin out, Shaw said. The driver was treated on the scene for cuts turned over to Royal Oak police, he said.

Meanwhile, a state police trooper was transported to Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak for minor hand lacerations, Shaw said.

Royal Oak Police did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
