Troy — Police seek witnesses to a crash early Sunday morning that killed two 19-year-olds following a police chase.

About 2:30 a.m., Troy police said they attempted to stop a black 2000 Ford Mustang for reckless driving in the Long Lake and John R Road area. According to a news release, the driver fled and subsequently lost control of the Mustang and crashed near 19 Mile, east of Dequindre Road, in Sterling Heights.

The driver, identified as Chaz Gracey of Sterling Heights, 19, was pronounced dead at the scene. His lone passenger, David Kezy, a 19-year-old Troy resident, later died from his injuries at Troy Beaumont Hospital.

The cash remains under investigation by Sterling Heights police.

A preliminary investigation by Troy police indicates alcohol may have been a factor in the crash. The driver is believed to have attended a party in Troy before the crash.

A Troy officer attempted a traffic stop after seeing the Mustang driving recklessly out of a Troy subdivision and then it fled at a high rate of speed northbound on John R Road and then eastbound on Square Lake Road. Troy Police Department officers were terminating their involvement as the Mustang crossed Dequindre Road, Troy’s border, according to the release.
