Auburn Hills — Investigators are trying to determine the cause of a fire that broke out early Tuesday morning at an animal control shelter that caused property damage but left the animals unharmed.

According to the Auburn Hills Fire Department, the fire was called in at about 1:36 a.m. at the Oakland County Animal Control and Pet Adoption building at 1700 Brown Road near Silverbell.

Arriving crews found the fire was contained to the roof of a garage that is attached to an incinerator at the shelter. All of the animals remained in their pens while the fire was extinguished with no reported injuries.

A preliminary investigation has found nothing suspicious about the fire. Fire personnel from Rochester, Rochester Hills as well as Orion and Independence townships responded to the blaze.
