Novi — A 61-year-old man was hospitalized Saturday after he stripped naked near the Kroger meat counter, police said.

Police were called to the grocery at Grand River and Beck around 7 p.m. Saturday to reports of a naked man speaking unintelligibly and lying on the floor, Novi Police Assistant Chief Jerrod Hart said.

Officers responded and found the man near the store’s east entrance.

“It was not something where it appeared he was under the influence of narcotics or alcohol,” Hart said. “It appeared that he needed medical attention, so he was escorted out of the Kroger and taken to a local hospital for treatment.”

Hart on Tuesday said he had no update on the Novi resident’s condition.

“It was clear that this was something that was a medical issue,” Hart said. “We’re not seeking criminal charges on him.”
