Royal Oak — A male driver in the midst of a medical emergency crashed a van into a Thai restaurant Thursday morning, police said.

The restaurant, Siam Spicy, on the north side on the 29000 block of Woodward between 12 Mile and 13 Mile, had not yet opened for the day and employees could not be reached for comment.

The white Ford E250 Super Duty cargo van that crashed into the corner of the building at about 7:30 a.m. had advertising for Aerobee Electric on its sides and rear.

The storefront was heavily damaged, as was the front of the van.

Lt. David Clemens of the Royal Oak Police Department said it would be unlikely for someone having a medical emergency to be ticketed for a car crash.

Police didn’t have information on the driver’s condition but did say he was transported to Beaumont Hospital.
