Car catches fire on I-696 in Royal Oak

Royal Oak — Michigan State Police and the Royal Oak Fire Department responded Tuesday afternoon to a vehicle fire on Interstate 696.

The engine fire ignited just before 1 p.m. on westbound I-696 at Bermuda Road in Royal Oak. The small, dark colored compact car was stopped in the far left shoulder as traffic continued in both directions on the expressway.

No injuries were reported, said Lt. Calvin Hart of the Michigan State Police Metro Post.

The fire was extinguished within minutes by Royal Oak firefighters, who responded to the scene along with state police.
