Rochester Hills — A 20-year-old Rochester Hills man is in critical condition Monday after he shot himself in the head during a game of Russian Roulette, according to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies and the fire department were called around 6:20 p.m. Friday to a home on the 200 block of Marias Drive in the Rochester Estates Mobile Home Park, officials said. At the home, they found the victim on the kitchen floor suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.

A witness was holding a towel to the man’s head while on the phone with 911, officials said. First responders stabilized the man before transporting him to Crittenton Hospital.

Investigators determined the man was playing video games when he decided to play Russian Roulette instead, officials said. He retrieved a gun, placed it to his temple and pulled the trigger.

Witnesses immediately dialed 911 and began to administer first aid.

Prior to the shooting, the victim made no suicidal statements and witnesses initially thought the incident was a joke, officials said.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor.
