Auburn Hills — A 37-year-old police officer is recovering from non life-threatening injuries Friday after being hit by a car during a traffic stop.

The incident happened at 2:03 a.m. Friday near Opdyke and Pontiac roads after a 22-year-old woman from Pontiac started to fight with the 37-year-old officer after being arrested.

The motorist broke free and fled in her vehicle after backing up and striking the officer and his patrol car, according to Auburn Hills Police.

Police reported late Friday morning they have the 22-year-old female suspect in custody.

The officer, who has worked for the department for four years, was taken to McLaren Osteopathic Hospital.

The officer has since been treated and released and in good condition, police said.

“He is doing well,” Lt. Jill McDonnell said Friday.

Anyone with information is asked to call Auburn Hills Police at (248) 370-9444.
